Albert’s Rain by Annette Snyder

I grew up far from movie theaters or shopping malls and spent my time reading romance novels I bought with my babysitting money at the local grocery store. Most of the time, I enjoyed them yet sometimes the endings annoyed me and I’d think, “I would end that better.” I never considered writing as more than a hobby until I finished my first novel, and third release, Travis Pass. Once Travis Pass was complete, new ideas kept coming and now I find myself looking at life as if it’s filled with millions of stories.

I’ve got links all over.  You can find me at my website http://annettesnyder.atspace.com

Getting to know Annette:

Tell us about your latest book and what you think readers will get out of it.

Albert’s Rain, released December 2007, is a story of survival and strength.  Albert plans to escape slavery until he meets Rayna. When Rayna is attacked by Master Bristol, Albert offers the support of friendship. When Albert’s life is threatened, Rayna forces him to run to save his life.  This story chronicles their flight toward freedom and love and follows the pair as they struggle with life choices that accompany independence. Everyone can overcome if they have the patience and the right mindset.

Can you describe your characters to us? Do you pattern them after anyone you know or is it pure imagination? I patterned Albert after no one.  Rayna showed up on her own as well.  I do have a good friend who helped me with a lot of the history in this novel.  He actually lived in a house in the south known for being an Underground Railroad stop.  The descriptions of the ‘hidey-holes’ he used to play in and the landscape of the land was an invaluable tool for me when it came to writing the plight of my main characters.

What genre have you not done but want to in the future?I’m thinking I’ll work on a mystery romance sometime.  I’ve got a great idea, but I’ve never written one.  I’ll have to read up as reading the genre is one key to knowing how to write it.

Tell us about your most erotic romantic fantasy. If you could have a 24-hour romantic fling with anyone you wanted, anywhere you wanted, where would you go, what would you do and with whom would you do it? Erotic?  You mean, after dishes and laundry and kids and work?  I’m pretty boring in real life.  A night with my husband and fewer distractions, watching a good movie, maybe with a couple glasses of wine and some strawberries….MMM!

If you could have one special super or magical power, what would it be?I always thought it would be fun to be Double Girl.  There’d be two of me!  I could do the things I had to do, like home and work stuff, and the things I wanted to do, like vacation to far off lands, at the same time.

VIN Diesel or Gerard Butler? Gerard Butler…definitely

Who is more fun to write about: Bad boys or Perfect Gentlemen and why? I like the bad boys who are perfect gentlemen deep down. The ones who hide the way they are because of tragedy or hardship but end up turning on themselves and being decent guys.

Do you watch reality TV? If so, what is one of your guilty pleasures? if not, what do you prefer to watch? No reality TV!! Wait that’s not true. My exchange student has me hooked in watching American Idol.

If you could visit any time and place, where and when would it be and why?

Someday I will go to the Galapagos Islands but I always wanted to live at the times when people were building Pryamids. I don’t actually ever want to build a pryamid  but I always wanted to see them at the time they were being constructed. There is apark not too far from where I live where they have a cornerstone of a pryamid that was donated and I am in awe whenever I see it.

Where can readers reach you?

Blood of the Dark Moon by Adrianne Brennan

Adrianne Brennan stumbled into her love of writing by accident at the tender age of ten when she was given a creative writing assignment for her science class. The end result was her writing a brief science fiction comedy featuring numerous puns regarding vegetables. Once the writing bug bit, it bit pretty hard, and from the age of fourteen onwards she began working on a lengthy fantasy novel.
At this time, this fantasy novel is still a work in progress as she continues to focus on her other works, including the Dark Moon series featuring her recently published work, Blood of the Dark Moon featuring vampires, magick, secret societies, and romance.

Adrianne’s works are currently published through Aphrodite’s Apples Press and she is a member of the Romance Writer’s of America, EPIC, and the Midnight Seductions Authors group.

An avid reader, Adrianne has been most influenced by various science fiction and fantasy authors including Madeleine L’Engle, Roger Zelazny, Laurell K. Hamilton, Neil Gaiman, and Alan Moore. Like her main character from Blood of the Dark Moon, she professes a love for Iamblichus and Greek philosophy.

The author resides in Boston, Massachusetts with two cats and a car she has aptly named “the TARDIS.” She assures her readers that people tell her it looks bigger on the inside.

Getting to know Adrianne:

Tell us about your latest book and what you think readers will get out of it.  My book, Blood of the Dark Moon, is the first in the Dark Moon series.  It’s part dark fantasy, part urban fantasy, part vampire, part vampire erotica, part paranormal romance, part action… oh, heck, there’s a little bit of everything in it and I try to have new takes on old legends.  It’s about a young woman named Amanda who’s a Classical Studies grad student.  She’s a bit of a geek, a workaholic, and very driven towards her career, personal, and spiritual goals.  Then she meets Jesse, a young man who throws that out of balance, but demonstrates a surprising amount of interests in common with her.  Naturally a whirlwind romance ensues.  Little does she know that he’s actually a vampire, and one who belongs to a secret society of vampires who study and practice magick.  He must make a choice about where he wants their relationship to go, and that determines her future–as well as the end of the life she knew.

The book is about Amanda’s adjustment to her life, to her relationship with Jesse, and most importantly, to her relationship with herself.

Can you describe your characters to us? Do you pattern them after anyone you know or is it pure imagination?  Sometimes I take snippets from friends as well as myself, but it’s mostly imagination–plus how they turn out is NEVER as I plan it.  The characters write themselves.  :P

What genre have you not done but want to in the future?   I don’t think that there’s a genre I haven’t done, but more one I haven’t done in a while–beyond fan fic, I haven’t had the opportunity to write original science fiction in quite some time and I rather miss it.

Tell us about your most erotic romantic fantasy. If you could have a 24-hour romantic fling with anyone you wanted, anywhere you wanted, where would you go, what would you do and with whom would you do it?   I’d have to say the current Doctor from the new Doctor Who episodes.  As for where and what… let me put it this way:  I have a fabulous drink recipe called “Sex in the TARDIS.”  The key to this recipe is making it sooo sweet and sooo good that you don’t know how powerful it is until BAM! you’re on the floor.  I think that this will suffice for my description!  :D

If you could have one special super or magical power, what would it be?  Teleportation through time and space, including parallel universes.  :)

If you could visit any time and place, where and when would it be and why?  Ancient Greece, to see all of the ancient temples and how they looked back in the day.

Who’s more fun to write about, bad boys or perfect gentlemen and why?  Bad boys are more interesting but best yet, take a perfect gentleman with an inner bad boy.  Aw yeah!  Complexity rules!!

Do you watch reality TV? If so, what is one of your guilty pleasures? If not, then what do you prefer to watch?  No, I don’t.  I prefer science fiction and fantasy shows.  My favorites include Doctor Who, Torchwood, Babylon 5, and Star Trek.

VIN Diesel or Gerard Butler?  Neither–give me David Tennant instead!  :D

Where can readers reach you?  On one of my many blogs or by email at adrianne@adriannebrennan.com.

Where can we find your books to buy? http://www.adriannebrennan.com/botdm.html

Thanks for coming Adrianne. :)

Storm Warning by Clint Dunshee

I was born in Northern Michigan in 1960.  Being from Northern Michigan made it easy to follow my first love, the water.  I began water sports at an early age.  I graduated From North Central Michigan College in June, 1982, and entered the US Air Force in November 1982.  I spent my entire twenty year military career as a medical technician.  While I always had the dream of being a published author, my military experiences gave me the inspiration to begin putting ideas on paper. While in the military, I observed how real people reacted to situations.  I found out quickly that many Hollywood sterotypes of the military are very wrong.  I love science fiction and adventure, and most of my books will deal with these topics.

*****************************************

Getting to know Helen:

Tell us about your latest book and what you think readers will get out of it.

First off, thanks, Raine, for the opportunity to tell your readers a bit about myself and my work.

Released 15th December 2007, Morning Glory is an erotic romance novella set in a contemporary Australian farming district. Apart from a real glimpse into Australian life, readers will become intimately acquainted and be able to relate with my characters. This fast-paced story has tragedy and humour, love, loss and hot sex. It also has lust, betrayal, revenge and more. I think I deliver these elements in realistic proportions, which can be hard to find in reading today.
****

Can you describe your characters to us? Do you pattern them after anyone you know or is it pure imagination?

Because I want readers to meet and form opinions of my characters, I will tell just enough about these people to whet readers’ appetites. Widowed Vivica, hardworking farmwife, teenage Lizette’s mum, sole breadwinner, has a utilitarian exterior and an interior of pure red lace.

Growing up without a dad, Lizette is mature for her 18 years, loves and trusts boyfriend Jarratt, and adores her mum.

Vivica’s husband Dylan was born and bred on the farm and also adored Vivica before his death 12 years ago.

Jack McEvoy, Vivica’s sex partner and boss, is untrustworthy, disloyal and as shifty as an outhouse rat.

Talbot Tasman, widower, Vivica’s neighbour is her best friend and secretly worships her.

I dare to say any character developed by any writer has elements of people known to the writer, elements of the writer themselves, and mine are no different.  While I do use mannerisms and sometimes sayings and habits of people I know, no character in this story is modeled on anyone in particular. I find it best not to model characters on people but to let the character develop as the story unfolds. This way I always have a few surprises up my sleeve, and don’t we all love surprises?

****

What genre have you not done but want to in the future?

My fave genre is psych thriller and the mind-journey on which I embark with my readers. For 14 years my mentor had been trying to persuade me to write romance as it has the biggest market share. Over 54% of all fiction sold is romance. But I am neither romantic nor erotic and I have never bought a romance story. 2 years ago my mentor dared me to write a 5000 word romance short, and that evolved into my first erotic romance novella, Waiting for Misty. Because I was not comfortable writing sex and love then, I tried to keep the story as far from these 2 things as possible. The original version was pretty bad. I have reworked Misty several times, and it waits in the eXtasy Books queue to be edited and probably rewritten again. I’m not afraid of rework, because it makes my work better.

To answer your question, probably none. I really LOVE writing psych thriller with or without paranormal undertones, and have a few erotic romance plots stewing in my mind.  I’m unsure if it’s a good idea to spread ones self too thin over several genres. That’s just me. No doubt others will disagree.

****

Tell us about your most erotic romantic fantasy. If you could have a 24-hour romantic fling with anyone you wanted, anywhere you wanted, where would you go, what would you do and with whom would you do it?

As long as Sean Connery and Richard Gere are alive in this world, so will my fantasies of me with them remain alive. Few people really turn me on that way.  Not a good answer? Okay, sex fantasy from the mind of a logical, non-romantic, non-erotic, single 54 year old woman: Connery in First Knight with me as Guinevere, then along comes Lancelot Gere and there you have it. Let your mind make the image. I don’t need to explain it. I think Connery is the sexiest man on the planet, and the older he gets, the sexier he becomes. He only has to cock that eyebrow at me from the little screen and I am putty in his paws…

****

If you could have one special super or magical power, what would it be?

To become invisible. The places I could go, the things I could see. Think of the fun I could have sneaking up on Sean Connery and pinching his bum…or perhaps pinching something else…

****

Who is more fun to write about: Bad boys or perfect gentlemen and why?

Oh, bad boys for sure.  Gentlemen are limited by their gentility. Bad boys can have many faces and voices. Anyway, aren’t all boys just a little bit bad?

****

Do you watch reality tv and if so, what is one of your guilty pleasures? If not, what do you prefer watching?

Because I run a very busy business I rarely watch daytime or reality TV, but I have been known to take a squizz at Judge Judy because people are so petty, Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. I can’t sing or dance for nuts. But I write well…

 ****

If you could visit any time and place, where and when would it be and why?

Poienari Castle, 1450 AD. My WIP is a vamp epic and Vlad Dracula III lived there.

 ****

VIN Diesel or Gerard Butler?

Oh God, please don’t tell anyone but I had to Google the names to see who they were. I LOVE bald men (“Let me run my fingers through your scalp, cherie…”) so Vin Diesel wins heads up. (For that matter, I have Jamie Hyneman’s pic on my desktop.) Gerard Butler’s eyes have that smoldering sexiness that makes me want to….Whew!!  Excuse me, thinking of all that testosterone eye candy, I need to go get a drink of cold water from the fridge.
