Tell us about your upcoming release and what you hope readers will enjoy about it.

Ravenwolf is the sequel to Of Water and Dragons, which continues the story of Ambiorix and Nemu. Their idyllic life is shattered when spiteful goddesses seek to destroy Nemu, forcing her to confront a past life filled with betrayal, loss and revenge. These goddesses join forces with a renegade Roman legion led by Ambiorix’s old friend, Marcus. To protect his family from harm, Ambiorix has no choice but to join the Roman Army, once again commanding a cavalry unit, and torn between the soldier inside and being a husband and father. As Nemu’s past collides with her present life, she finds herself trapped in the Celtic Underworld by a god who was once obsessed with her. I hope readers will like the mix of fantasy and history plus the enduring romance between these two characters.

If you could have one special super or magical power, what would it be?

Shapeshifting.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

I like to play my bass guitar, read, swim and I am a television addict.

Bad boy/girl or perfect gentleman/woman to write about?

I like the bad boys and girls. Personally, I don’t believe that the perfect person exists. We all have a dark side and weaknesses. That’s what makes us human.

If you could visit any time and place, where and when would it be and why?

I would want to visit Neolithic Anatolia prior to invasions by northern raiders. I want to see if this time was really as peaceful and prosperous as some archaeologists claim.

If you could be a shapeshifter, what form would you take and why?

How funny. This was my magic power answer. I have a special affinity with wolves so I will pick the wolf for their intelligence, strength and beauty. I want to be able to roam free in the wild as a top predator.

Where are you published? Where can readers reach you?

I have three books published with Awe-Struck www.awe-struck.net and one short story with Freya’s Bower www.freyasbower.com. I can be reached through my website at www.kelleyheckart.com.

What else would you like readers to know about you or your work?

I have a passion for Celtic mythology and the supernatural, which are key elements in my stories. I also like to mix fantasy with history, adding romance and conflict to my tales of long ago places. My characters range from fierce warriors and bold women to otherworldly creatures.

A sneak look into RAVENWOLF:

Faint sunlight trickled into the dense forest, and an unsettling quiet permeated the air around us. I dared to glance upward and saw eyes gleaming in the darkness–many eyes that were somewhere between human and beast, preternatural. The wolf sensed it too, lifting her snout skyward. I almost cried out, but something made me pause. The eyes held no malice in them, only curiosity. They would let us pass through their domain as long as we showed respect to the land.

Sunlight pierced the darkness up ahead. We left the strange forest behind and entered a clearing. A beautiful sight greeted us–a sandy cove nestled beneath rolling green hills and hugged by the sea. Gentle waves lapped at a shoreline covered in sparkling white sand.

Donnan rode on ahead and dismounted. He scanned the shoreline, kneeling to pick up something in the sand. I rode over to him and he showed me a piece of leather with a hand-size bronze plate attached to it. I shook my head. I did not know what it was.

“This is Roman. It is a piece of their armor.” He scowled, flinging it away as if it belonged in a compost heap.

I thought that this must be the place where Ambiorix had seen the Romans. My heart ached as I thought of him standing there, and breathing the same sea air I was breathing.

“Why would Roman soldiers be here?” Ceri stood next to me.

Donnan looked angry, his shaggy blond hair blowing in the sea wind. “They are probably looking for more lands to take and people to kill.”

Dubh pointed to some mountains toward the west. “We only have to reach those mountains and we will be at our destination.”

“It is getting late. Perhaps we should camp here tonight. We can get an early start in the morning,” Donnan suggested.

“I agree.” I looked to the others and they all nodded in agreement.

I wanted to be near Ambiorix and I wanted to stay where he had been. The gentle lapping of the water soothed my troubled mind. While the warriors hunted for food, Ceri and I walked along the shoreline, stretching our legs from the long ride. Bran ran along the shoreline searching for rocks and seashells. The she-wolf followed at my heels, never leaving my side as if she always belonged there.

Tell us about your upcoming release and what you hope readers will enjoy about it.
I am very pleased that my erotic shifter novella, “Blue Moon Rising” will be available in September from Liquid Silver Books in the “Furry, Fluffy, and Wild” anthology.

It’s my first shifter story and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed writing about these wolves. Of course our hero not only is the pack council leader, he’s also the Chief of Police working to solve both animal and shifter murders in his Montana town. When a beautiful stranger comes into Lonesome Fork, he wonders if her arrival days before the full moon is merely a coincidence or part of the elaborate scheme to dessimate the wolf shifter population.

This story is filled with intrigue, hot sex, and of course some sexy wolf shifters.

If you could have one special super or magical power, what would it be?
Wah … only one? Okay, I thought maybe super maid, does dishes, laundry, dusting and vacuuming in under five minutes, but then I’d have to do it for others and that wouldn’t be any fun (and I’d still never find time for writing).

So I think I’d like to have the power to whip any man into a romance machine. Not a sex machine … they’re already programmed for that *cackle* … but the hot, sexy guys we love to make of our heros. I could take your run of the mill guy and I’d zap his voice to be sexy and hot and sigh out just the right compliments at the right time. I’d transform those tired eyes and hands into dreamy, lustfilled eyes, and gentle touches that would make any woman swoon. And of course that would be a super-power service I wouldn’t mind sharing!

What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I love my family. The husband, the kids, my parents, my siblings, heck, I even love my mother-in-law! When I’m not writing I spend time with them at the beach or lake, playing games or just shooting the breeze. They are such a wonderful support system. I don’t know what I’d do without them.

Bad boy/girl or perfect gentleman/woman to write about?
Bad, bad, and more bad. Who doesn’t fantasize about tangling with that? I love that rough alpha-exterior on both men and women. But of course, they have to be all warm and gooey on the inside. Even if it’s only their significant other that knows the truth, they have to have a wonderful heart.

If you could visit any time and place, where and when would it be and why?
I’d love to go back to the American early west when it was just the Indians roaming the plains. I know they had a hard existence, but it also seemed so simple. It was all about the clan. I would just love to live off the land and be in a community where everyone took care of one another.

If you could be a shapeshifter, what form would you take and why?
Black panther. I love that sleek look, it’s so sensual. I like that the females are so respected in their pride. Besides, they have sharp teeth and claws … oh, the things a woman could do with that!

Where are you published? Where can readers reach you?
Currently all my books are with Liquid Silver Books, an electronic publisher of erotic fiction. They are an amazing company to work with. Extremely supportive of their authors. You can find me on their website http://www.liquidsilverbooks.com. But I also keep my readers up-to-date on my own website http://www.NinaPierce.com.

What else would you like readers to know about you or your work?
I am always writing. My stories have some element of suspense in them as well as the love story and erotica, though the genre may change. I’ve written science fiction, contemporary, and paranormal. I’m working on a possible historical erotica. I am currently working to get some of my books in print and hope to announce that as early as 2009.

Sneak look into Blind Love:

Her arms knotted across her chest for protection. A wounded heart? He’d have to tread carefully. The emerald eyes shimmering in the waning light telegraphed her pain, but her lips were pursed thin with determination. The woman was a walking enigma. Damon suspected she had no idea how damn sexy she looked standing there, inviting him to explain himself–daring him to breach her defenses.

“Look, Julie. I’m not going to lie to you. Demon Jones is very popular with the ladies. Damon Corey … not so much. If you’re looking for the person I was last night, well, you’re in for a big surprise. He’s as fake as Santa Claus.”

“I still believe in Santa Claus.”

She would. “The Easter bunny, then.”

“But he doesn’t try to pass himself off as anything but the chocolate peddler that he is. I don’t think any hearts have ever been broken by the Easter bunny.”

“Julie…” Damon’s hand found its way to her cheek, his fingers tangling in her hair. She smelled earthy and fresh, and he gulped in great breaths of heaven, not sure he could ever completely fill his lungs. When he pressed his lips to hers, she didn’t resist. Julie opened to him, and their tongues meshed and explored, and he walked her backward into the living room and shut out the neighbor’s prying eyes.

“Damon.” The husky way she spoke sent blood rushing from his head straight to his throbbing dick. He wanted her like no woman he’d known.

“Julie, I haven’t stopped thinking about you all day. You crawled into my head last night, and all I’ve thought about is how to get a repeat performance.”

She pulled from him, her lips swollen from his assault. “I don’t do this…” Her hand stirred the heated air between them. “…very well. I’ve been told I’m not good at it. I think you lucked out last night.”

He scooped her into his arms. “Oh, you let me be the judge of that. And your bedroom would be where?” He was already heading down the hall.

In the Spotlight: Destiny Blaine and a contest from Destiny!

5 08 2008

Tell us about your upcoming release and what you hope readers will enjoy about it.

Winning Virgin Love is the second story in the Winning Virgin series. A paranormal/urban fantasy, I hope everyone who reads Winning Virgin Love will want to go back and grab the first book too (Winning Virgin Blood). Books 1 and 2 cover the lives and stories of the Spenser twins (Almonzo and Orlando) and their little sister will have her own book also—Winning Virgin Lust (Coming in October). The ultimate ‘wish’ or hope will be for readers to follow this series through to the end.

If you could have one special super or magical power, what would it be?

The power to heal. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to possess healing powers? I think so. Imagine how it would feel to mend broken hearts and wounded souls one minute and a torn ligament or someone’s life-threatening disease, the next.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

Write. I’m paying my dues right now so most of the time I am writing but on the rare occasion when I’m not writing, I’m generally doing something with my teenagers and husband. We’re an active sports-oriented family so we’re usually on the go between ballgames and sports complex centers! Then there’s always the adult playgrounds—casinos! I love poker and craps so whenever I have a few days to run, I’m typically casino-bound!

Bad boy/girl or perfect gentleman/woman to write about?

LOL! Well, I grew up on a cattle ranch/farm so you know I have to love a southern gentleman but the truth is—I prefer the bad boys! From cowboys to vampires, I want my heroes downright naughty!

If you could visit any time and place, where and when would it be and why?

I’ve been working on a western series (Branded—eXtasy) so I have to say right now, my heart (not to mention current thoughts) tends to stray to the Old West. I think it would’ve been wonderful to live around Stockton, California during the Gold Rush. Between the excitement and the handsome cowboys, a cowgirl sure had a lot of inspiration.

If you could be a shapeshifter, what form would you take and why?

Ah, that’s easy—a bird. I could fly away whenever I wanted to go explore new worlds.

Where are you published?

Currently, I’m published with some of the best of the best and I know I’m one of the lucky ones. I feel very fortunate to be published by very reputable small and mid-size publishing houses in our industry. My new and upcoming releases are with Siren/BookStrand, Whispers Publishing, eXtasy Books, Resplendence Publishing, and Excessica Publishing. I also have some of my short stories with Amira Press.

What else would you like readers to know about you or your work?

I love to write in all genres. I’m fickle when it comes to writing and it’s one of the things I love about this career. A writer can explore topics and worlds they typically wouldn’t visit any other way. Through writing for small presses and e-book publishers, an author has such a wide range of options and there are few ‘taboos’ to confine a writer. It’s a tough business but I wouldn’t change a thing now. I’ve met some wonderful people and made some lasting friendships. Plus, I’ve learned so much about myself and the rest of the world by researching various book topics. I have the best career in the world and thanks to the readers who read me, I get to do what I love—write!

Thank you for allowing me to visit with you today. Since day one, you’ve been one of my favorite people and I’m lucky to count you as one of my friends in the business.

Hugs!
Destiny

A sneak look into Book 1, Winning Virgin Blood by Destiny Blaine and Siren Publishing:

“Mother, Father! There you are!” Constance ran in and interrupted the meeting they were about to have. “Mother, look at the jewelry Orlando bought me from this woman called Tiffany. Isn’t it beautiful? And guess what, Father?” She turned with a gaze full of life ready to spill her so-called truths as she believed them.

“What, my dear?” Her father played along. His voice matched her enthusiasm as he bent down to allow Constance a knee to perch upon as she told her story.

Orlando paid more for it than most people pay for a Jaguar car!” Her lips pursed at just the right places. Then, they fell open precisely the same way to make sure everyone gained a real understanding of its value.

Almonzo rubbed the back of his neck, releasing a sigh. “I warned you last night.” He chuckled. “By the second.”

Evidently unconcerned with her brother, she continued. Eyes grew larger with each bigger tale. “Oh and do you know what, Mother?”

“What?” Marion shot her husband a look of astonishment, eyeing the diamonds gleaming within their setting.

“I think this was probably more expensive than a Rolls Royce.” The comparison just rolled off her tongue almost as elegantly as the car itself, and again her mouth formed a tight line in a matter-of-fact gesture.

Almonzo leaned on the dresser behind him, crossing his arms as he did. “Here we go.”

“You do?” Her father’s amusement gave the young beauty fuel to continue.

“Yes, indeed. I think maybe even more than a Bentley, and if I was in a betting mood, I’d bet that this necklace was more expensive than a Bugatti.” She nodded and placed her hands on her tiny little hips. She loved to be the center of attention.

Constance?” Samuel Spenser was ready to move on to the next topic after he saw his daughter’s extreme exaggeration.

“Yes, Father?” Her eyelids batted quickly.

“The Bugatti is the most expensive car, or one of the more expensive cars in the world.”

Never indicating that she thought any different, the young girl danced as she screamed excitedly. “I know, Daddy! I know! Isn’t it wonderful?”

Sneak peek at Devon Falls: Haunting Magic

1 08 2008

The next Devon Falls book is coming so get ready for Damien’s twin brother, Rodrick’s story as he finds that the one woman he has snarled, fought and just plain aggravated is the one that knocks him on his ass! Let me know what youthought and as it gets closer to release date, a few other sneak peeks coming. 🙂

Here is a sneak peek at Haunting Magic (Unedited yet so please beaware it will be cleaned up at editing):

Devon Falls: Haunting Magic

Raine Delight

Paranormal/Shapeshifter

Coming to Aspen Mountain Press

Rod watched Jax, the bane of his existence or so it was until a few months ago when he noticed the way her eyes flared with laughter, or the way her legs seemed to go on for miles in those short skirts she wore when she was at the Dirty Diamond. He didn’t know what changed between them but he was definitely feeling something for this pain in the ass female that seemed to call to him. “Yeah, seems everyone is getting ready for the Halloween costume dance tomorrow. What are you up to tonight? Dinner date?” Rod fairly growled the last part though he was surprised that the thought of Jax with another man had the wolf in him wanting to beat the man into submission.

“Was going to have dinner with Grady but he got short staffed and had to cover tonight. Just seeing if I can grab a take out from your mom.” Jax said as she marveled at how normal it was between them. Though she thought the hair on his arms bristled at the thought of her on a date though it probably was her imagination. Rod wasn’t interested in her, just the ones who wanted a good time.

Rod felt relieved that she wasn’t meeting anyone but was surprised all the same at the thought of her being alone tonight made him want to cuddle with her. Her eyes held faint purple shadows underneath and she looked like she hadn’t had a good nights rest in ages. “I am sure my mom would love to give you something since everyone knows you can burn water without trying.” The smile that tugged at his lips surprised him as he watched her eyes go a little wide then narrow in annoyance.

“What the hell would you know about cooking, you jackass? I bet you couldn’t make something if your life depended on it.” Jax said as her lips practically snarled at him. If she didn’t know better, she would have thought there was a smile lingering on his smug face.

“Oh are you challenging me Jax? Can’t take the fact that I may actually know something you don’t? Want to take that to a test?” Rod felt a quickening in his blood that had him wondering if he was absolutely flaming insane. Why the thought of making dinner for her had him wanting something more and though if he had to say, he was enjoying the play of emotions on her face; it was fun to watch and damn it, he wanted to prove to her that he could actually do something besides what she thought he was: a playboy that flitted from woman to woman, though he was unsure why it mattered what Jax really thought of him. Needling her a little more, Rod leaned forward and stroked a finger down her nose and smirked a little as he said softly, “Afraid Jax that maybe I can do something that will make you readjust your opinion of me?”

In the Spotlight: Kara Griffin- A Sexy and Sassy Book Tour

22 07 2008

Tell us about your upcoming release and what you hope readers will enjoy about it.

My latest book release is Cosmic Hearts, the first book in the cosmic series. It’s a sci-fi romance filled with laughs, sexy scenes, character’s you’ll come to love. Cosmic Hearts is the story of Chance, who must find a new planet for his people. He chooses Vestalumbria a planet full of women…and the sexy Valeen. Now he’s in a race to get her to accept him in order to save his people and his heart.

If you could have one special super or magical power, what would it be?

One magical power… it would have to be the ability to make things move. I’d love to point my finger and have things magically move…putting themselves away or performing…like mopping or perhaps have dishes load themselves in the dishwasher!

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

I’m always working, except when I’m sleeping. I do love to read and so when I’m not writing I can usually be found reading. Can’t help it, I’m addicted to romance.

Bad boy/girl or perfect gentleman/woman to write about?

Hmmm…I like writing both/all. I do think writing the bad boy is my favorite though, like Jack in Cosmic Chemistry. He was so easy to write. Maybe I’ve met him sometime in my life.

If you could visit any time and place, where and when would it be and why?

Oh, (dreamy eyes)… I would love to visit Scotland in the 13/14th century. I suppose it’s because I find the Scots romantic people and their ways fascinating. I would love to stand in one of their homes and really see what it was like. To hear their gruff voices, and to well…I’ll keep that fantasy for myself. lol. One day I will visit in the future of course.

If you could be a shapeshifter, what form would you take and why?

Ooooh a shifter. I’d have to say a sexy female lion. To me they are the ultimate female animal. They do it all…keep their young safe, satisfy their men, take care of themselves….the dominate female. Definitely a lioness!

Where are you published? Where can readers reach you?

I’m currently published at Aspen Mountain Press and Midnight Showcase. I love to hear from readers so please visit my website http://www.karagriffin.webs.com or my myspace where I frequently blog http://www.myspace.com/karagriffin or email me at karagrif66@comcast.net

What else would you like readers to know about you or your work?

My cosmic book series will be coming out at Aspen Mountain Press this summer/fall and more in 2009! I can’t wait to share all the stories in these sexy sci-fis. I’m also doing an anthology in the Vamptations 2 coming out at Midnight Showcase in October. It’s my first vampire story, which is sure to be sexy and thrilling.

A Sneak look into COSMIC HEARTS:

Would he kiss me already?

She craved a kiss from him, her first kiss from a male. Her body would fit nicely, molded against his. She’d never imagined wanting to feel a male’s body against hers, but his muscular length would feel so sinful. Before she could react, he covered her mouth with his.

At first, she was shocked at his lips touching hers, but when he moved his tongue in slow motions, it ignited her desire. Her tongue didn’t move at all, but she wasn’t certain how to respond to his gentle movements. He continued to move inside her mouth, twirling his tongue around hers. She savored the taste of his tongue.

His body brushed against hers, and his erection came in contact with her upper thigh. Something moved inside her, perhaps longing. A subtle ache throbbed between her legs, and then her breasts joined the frantic desire to be uncovered and touched.

Valeen lost all sense of righteousness. Kissing Chance set her blood to heat [R1] and[KW2]  her mind to slush. She enjoyed the warmth of his tongue touching hers. In the pit of her stomach, a tightening sent familiar pulses through her. The emotions her sexual service machine usually aroused came on full-fledged, awakening an urgent need within her.

Getting the hang of kissing, she began moving her tongue as his was. Mimicking his movements, she concentrated on the taste, scent, and hardness of the masculinity which engulfed her and sent ripples of heat to her vagina.

She enjoyed the personable sensation of the touching between two people. Not that her SSM didn’t do it for her, but admittedly, she longed for something more intimate.

This night, she’d found it—males.

He pulled back to her displeasure, but she smiled. “Stars, Chance, you are some man.”

“Your lips make me want to kiss you all night. I want to taste you and feel you against me.” He sounded as if he intended to do exactly that.

“Do people do this often? Can we do it again?”

Chance chuckled at her plea for more. He caressed her face and used his free hand to hold her against him. She smiled at the way he tugged her possessively.

“Let’s see if I can improve with the next one.”

In the spotlight: Kelley Heckert

17 07 2008

Tell us about your upcoming release and what you hope readers will enjoy about it.

Of Water and Dragons is my first book and kind of a sweeter book than my later releases. This one is more like a faery tale and readers who enjoy fantasy and romance will like this one.

It’s set in the 1st century A.D. in Roman Britain and is about a faery woman who falls in love with a Roman/Celt soldier. I based the story around an actual battle fought between the Roman legions and the Celts in Caledonia (Scotland).

If you could have one special super or magical power, what would it be?

Shapeshifting.

A sneak look  into Of Water and Dragons by Kelley Heckert:

He whirled around at the sudden sound of a snapping twig.  His sword narrowly missed taking off Fiona’s head.  She didn’t seem to notice that she almost lost her head, her eyes were wide with shock and she stumbled about as if drunk on spirits.

“Fiona, what happened?”  He held on to her arm to keep her from falling down.

She shook her head, her long wet braid swinging from shoulder to shoulder, spraying droplets of water.  “Ah…Ah…they blended into the forest like f-faery f-folk.”

He took her by the shoulders, shaking her.  “Where is Valeria?”

“Valeria?”  Her eyes were wide, vacant.

“Where is my wife?”  He tried to keep the anger out of his voice, but couldn’t help it.

“Ambiorix!”  Taran appeared from around what was left of the house.

“How could this happen, Taran?  Where are all the soldiers?”

“It happened just before dawn.  I was in the stables.  Most of the soldiers were called away to a neighboring villa.”  He paused, catching his breath.  “I heard screams coming from the house and then… flames.  There was nothing I could do.”

Ambiorix felt his heart rise inside his chest, choking him.  “Valeria?”

“I…I’m sorry.  She didn’t make it out of the house.”  Taran shifted his gaze, looking down at the ground.

The world seemed to spin and the vision of the burnt, blackened house loomed before him like a wide black maw.  Behind him, Fiona started screaming.

“The poor babe!  The poor babe all burned up, too!”

He lost all control.  “Speak to me, woman!  What babe?  What are you talking about?”  He shook her hard and slapped her cheek, the loud crack piercing the thick mist and rain.

Her eyes cleared and she looked up at him.  “Why, your babe, sir.  Valeria, she was with child.”

He turned away, his legs buckling beneath him, and was violently ill.  Shaking, he turned his face upward, letting the rain cleanse his invisible wounds.  They had killed his wife and unborn child, but it was the unborn child that reached out to him from the smoldering ashes.  He imagined the tiny fingers grasping onto his large, callused hand.  Cursing, he pounded the earth with his fist, the vision fading into a black abyss; and with it any hope of peace.
